8 weeks later.....

These are shots about 7-8 weeks into the project. This garden is blowing my mind! We are thrilled to be part of something that has exceeded our expectations. Attached are some images of Nigella damascena and Volutaria muricata in the 'blue-quiet' area, and Ensete ventricosum 'Maurellii', Talinum 'Kingwood Gold', Crocosmia 'Lucifer', and Coleus 'Big Red Judy' represented in the 'red-loud' area...among many others!!!

...make our garden grow....

On May 15th, our team finally put the finishing touches on our design. We were thrilled to see it from start to finish!....finish? Well, it's not really ever finished. We are now in the process of monitoring our plants since the site was a bit challenging. More photos of the gardens progress soon!

Further Defining the Space

The path is composed of Deleware River Jack - a very soft textured rock with smooth edges with varying shades of grays, blues, and tans. The contrasting path material is red tippel which is a red lava rock. The texture is a bit more jagged and has a'crunchier' sound to it. We wanted to create two different feelings in the space - the outside (soft, quiet) and the inside (hard, loud).

This 'outside' and 'inside' will be well defined. A wall will is being constructed as you can see in the pictures, to make that definition visible...more to come!

Diggin' and Edgin'

We are very pleased with the progress so far. It took us a bit more time than thought. We thought it would be easy to work with straight lines and corners, however it proved to be a bit more challenging. Exact measurements and precision were both factors in creating the walkways as you can see. Tons of 90 degre anlges that needed to be pretty darn accurate. So far so good!

Patience is a.....

Well, with much anticipation, our group was pretty well prepared to get into our garden space this past Tuesday to begin our initial work on the garden. This consisted of taking a copy of our planting plan out to the space. At this point it is important for us to find any buried utilities and mark them so we don't encounter any problems later as we begin excavating the space. Also, we intented to measure and lay out important features like walkways, walls, and planting beds....This ALL could have happened on Tuesday, however,..winter decided to expel about 4 inches (not bad) of snow that day..(how rude!), making it impossible for us to work in the space....Plan B....
regroup....and patience!

...the work

Landscape construction class is awesome. Since the semester has started, we have been able to take those design plans from last summer and start to 'build the foundation' (figuratively). The pic is taking those design plans and figuring out plant choices, plant spacing, plant height,...plants plants!! Also, sourcing out edging and gravel.
